Team Kazakhstan Wins 51 Medals in the Asian Summer Biathlon Championships

The first-ever Asian Summer Biathlon Championships successfully concluded at the Olympic Training Center in Shchuchinsk (August 30 – September 4, 2023). Around 130 athletes from five countries — Kazakhstan, South Korea, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and India — took part in the event.

The athletes competed in three age groups (adults, juniors, and youth) and fought for 18 sets of medals in three disciplines: individual race, supersprint, and sprint.

Kazakhstan biathletes confidently led the medal standings, winning a total of 51 medals (17 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze). Promising Mongolian junior biathlete Enkhbat Enkhsaikhan won one gold and one bronze medal, while South Korea's Yongto Kim took the bronze medal in the youth category.Ermek Kizatov, President of the Kazakhstan Biathlon Union, noted that this championship helps the International Biathlon Union (IBU) expand the sport in Asia and provides international experience for young athletes (born in 2006-2008).

Following the successful organization of this championship, Kazakhstan plans to officially apply this October to host a stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Shchuchinsk.
