Kazakhstan Biathlon Team Starts the New World Cup Season

The national team of Kazakhstan finished the first stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Oestersund, Sweden. Now, the team is in Hochfilzen, Austria, where the second stage starts this Friday.

The Kazakhstan team (Aset Dyusenov, Vladislav Kireev, Alexandr Mukhin, and Kirill Bauer) finished the men's relay in the top 15. The athletes took 13th place in the 4x7.5 km race, 4.5 minutes behind the winners. This is the team's best result since 2017. In pursuit Alexander Mukhin and Asset Dyussenov took part in the 12.5 km race. Mukhin started from 33rd position and finished 26th. He was 2:58.3 minutes behind the winner, Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden. Philipp Nawrath (Germany) took second place, and Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen (Norway) took third. With this result, Mukhin got 15 points for the total World Cup score.

The head coach of the national team, Maksat Sharanov, said the season started well:

"Our athletes had a good start at the first World Cup in Sweden. Before the races, the team had good training camps in Italy and Finland. In the men's relay, we finished in the top 15. Also, Alexandr Mukhin took 26th place in the pursuit race and made his personal record. We have 8 more World Cup stages and the World Championships ahead. We believe in our team."

The second stage of the World Cup will take place from December 8 to 10 in Hochfilzen, Austria.
