National Biathlon Championship Kicks Off in Shchuchinsk

The Kazakhstan National Biathlon Championship officially started today at the Olympic Training Center. 123 athletes from 9 regions of the country are competing in this big event. The first day featured the sprint races for men, women and juniors.

In the men's race, Vladislav Kireev from the Karaganda region won the gold medal. Even with two shooting mistakes, he was very fast on the track. He finished with a time of 27:49.0.

1st Place: Vladislav Kireev (Karaganda) - 27:49.0 (2)

2nd Place: Alexandr Mukhin (Akmola) - +8.3 sec (2)

3rd Place: Yerzhanat Kuandyk (Almaty) - +17.4 sec (3)

For the Juniors, Zakhar Shkarin from the Akmola region took first place with a time of 29:39.5.

The Olga Poltoranina won the women's sprint. She missed only one target and finished in 27:49.5. The race was very close the difference between 1st and 3rd place was less than 15 seconds.

2nd Place: Milana Geneva (Almaty) - +10.7 sec (1)

3rd Place: Darya Klimina (Pavlodar) -+14.9 sec (1)

In the Junior Women’s category, Anastasia Khvoshchenok from the Akmola region was the fastest. She finished in 27:41.9 and created a big lead over the other athletes.

The competition continues tomorrow with the Pursuit races. In this race, athletes start based on their sprint times from today.
