The Battle for the Olympic Quota: When Will the Final Team Selection for Milano 2026 Be Announced?

The winter season is heating up and the main question on every biathlon fan's mind is: who will represent Kazakhstan at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano? The battle for a place on the national team has reached its final and most intense stage. Our coaching staff, led by head coach Sergey Sokolovskiy, faces a challenging task—choosing the strongest and most prepared athletes.
The Battle for the Olympic Quota: When Will the Final Team Selection for Milano 2026 Be Announced?

We make sure that our Olympic selection is completely fair, strict, and transparent for everyone. No past achievements guarantee a spot. Every athlete must prove their worth here and now on the tracks of the World Cup and IBU Cup.

The main criteria for making the final roster include:

-Points earned in individual races at the upcoming World Cup stages.

-Stability and reliability in relay races.

-Current physical and psychological form heading into the Games.

"The competition inside the team is very high right now and this is exactly what we want. Every athlete understands the responsibility. We are closely monitoring the progress of both experienced leaders and young talents who are ready to surprise everyone," noted the Kazakhstan Biathlon Union.

The final number of athlete spots (quotas) depends on our results in the upcoming international races. Currently, our national team holds one quota for men and one for women. Our main task for the next five World Cup stages is to secure a "2+2" format (two spots for the men's team and two for the women's team).

The official and final information regarding the distribution of Olympic quotas will be presented by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) on January 18.

Immediately after the IBU announces the official quotas on January 18, our coaching staff will hold a final meeting. The official list of the Kazakhstan biathlon team for the 2026 Winter Olympics will be announced to the public shortly after that, by the end of January.

Competing against the world's elite from countries like Norway, Germany and France will be a massive challenge. However, we have full confidence in our leaders and their preparation.

We thank all our fans for their incredible support during this critical time. Our athletes feel your energy at every turn of the track. Follow our updates on the official website and our YouTube channel "Qaz Biathlon" to be the first to know the final Olympic line-up!
