About project

A new format for Kid's biathlon competitions has started in Kazakhstan, featuring 6 series: 4 in winter and 2 in summer. Each is organized in different cities across the country.

The first stage of the "Grand Tour Biathlon" took place in December in Ridder (East Kazakhstan). The second stage was held for the first time in Aksai, West Kazakhstan, in January 2024. Just two years ago Biathlon was opened Aksai.  The third stage was organized in February in Pavlodar, the fourth in March in Shchuchinsk, the fifth in July in Petropavl, and the final stage was organized for the first time in the capital of Kazakhstan - Astana. This new format of the Kid's competitions was organized with the same format as at the Biathlon World Cups for seniors.

The special Air rifles and special targets are being used at these competitions. Two years ago, the Kazakhstan Biathlon Union provided these targets and rifles to all regions where biathlon is practiced as part of a program to develop kids and youth biathlon.

Winners received special prizes from the Federation. These include a personalized red bib for the intermediate leaders for the top athletes after each stage, a yellow leader bibs for the overall season winner, and a Winner's crystal globes with a unique design.

The top 5 teams at the final stage in Astana received money certificates from the Federation to help them buy new equipment.

Additionally, the Federation sent together with IBU top young athletes to Norway for the Liatoppen festival which is the largest children's biathlon event in Europe. This opportunity gave them the chance to compete and experience international events. The Norwegian Biathlon Federation has given Kazakhstan four spots for this festival. Based on the results of the three winter stages, two girls and two boys born in 2009 have took part from April 10 to 15.

The main goal of the "Grand Tour Biathlon" is to promote and grow the sport in different regions, especially where new biathlon facilities have opened. The organizers want to make these competitions a brand for Kazakhstan's biathlon in the upcoming future.

The objective for the upcoming three years to make the final stage in Astana as the International Biathlon City event with the minimum 500 participants.
